Mr. Richard Hasunira is our Advocacy and Communications Manager. He documents and communicates our work and engages with our community, decision makers and partners at all levels, to create sustainable networks, and to advocate for change in the lives and wellbeing of the people of Kayini and other communities in Uganda and Africa. Mr. Hasunira holds a Bachelors degree in History and Economics, and a Masters degree in Economic Policy and Planning – both from Makerere University. He holds a diploma in Journalism from UMCAT School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Kampala; and is a student of Master of Science in Public Health (MPH) at Clarke International University, Kampala. He has studied short courses in data management, research ethics, good participatory research practices, participatory research methods, project planning and management, microbicides essentials, advocacy skills, entrepreneurship, business and financial journalism, political science, German language, and political science. Mr. Hasunira, 50, has worked in the print and electronic media in Uganda as a journalist, editor and publisher. He has worked as a teaching assistant at Makerere University; Communications Manager, and Program Advisor at HEPS-Uganda; Technical Collaborator at CEHURD, and Consultant with World Health Organization (WHO), Uganda Ministry of Health, International Treatment Preparedness Coalition (ITPC), International Rescue Committee (IRC), Medicines Transparency Alliance, Afya na Haki Institute (Ahaki), International Community of Women Living with HIV East Africa (ICWEA), Women Probono Initiative (WPI), and other institutions. Mr Hasunira is a pioneer biomedical HIV prevention advocacy fellow with AVAC (Global Advocacy for HIV Prevention), founder of the Uganda Civil Society HIV Prevention Coalition, and has been Chairperson of Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) Community Advisory Board since 2012. He has been a member of the National Taskforce for Review of National Guidelines for Research Involving Human Subjects, and of the Task Force for the National Guidelines for Community Engagement in Clinical Research – both developed by National Council of Science and Technology. He has worked as an independent and organizational consultant in the areas of policy analysis, research, strategic planning, programming, organizational policies, organizational development, documentation, communication, community engagement, and project evaluation.
