Meet Dr. Moses Mulumba, PhD: Founder of Nagalaale Foundation

Nagalaale Foundation was founded by Dr. Moses Mulumba, PhD, a celebrated human rights lawyer, advocate of the High Court of Uganda, academic, entrepreneur and philanthropist. Mulumba is the founder and founding Executive Director of the Center for Health, Human Rights and Development (CEHURD), which pioneered the justiciability of the right to health in East Africa, and champions social justice in health. He is also founder and current Director General of Afya na Haki (AHAKI), a regional research and training institute, championing Africentrism in addressing Africa’s sexual and reproductive health (SRHR) challenges.

Mulumba has served as lecturer at Uganda Christian University (UCU); African Advisor to the HIV and the Law Commission; board member of National Drug Authority (NDA); board member of International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), among others. He is widely experienced, researched, published and taught in various areas, including health law, intellectual property rights, international human rights, global health, sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR), organizational capacity development, and rural development. Nagalaale Foundation is the latest vehicle for advancing his passion for rural community well-being and development in Uganda and Africa.


Academic & Professional Background

Dr. Mulumba is a highly educated individual and an intellectual. He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at Makerere University 2002; a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Makerere University Law Development Center in 2006; a Master of Laws (LLM) at Makerere University in 2010; a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, in 2011; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Health Sciences from the University of Ghent, Belgium, in 2022.
